Artiste Spotlight: Kojo Funds

There’s absolutely No Stallin’ for Mr Kojo Funds, a leading force in the UK Afro-Swing genre, as he returns with his latest song.

The track features Funds’ catchy adlibs, a dirty bassline: all the ingredients for a summer anthem. Yet the music video directed by British Ghanian director Gerald Sagoe is striking and impactful as it showcases the violence and challenges that a young Black person can face. Set in a tower block and shot in black and white, the struggle is emphasised and real.

Hailing from East London to Ghanian and Dominican parents, Kojo Funds has witnessed first hand the street lifestyle, which explains his narrator-style role in the video. Yet his musical ability helped him pave an alternative way and has brought him international success – a message that Kojo wants to share with others as the video opens with:

“We all want power but you’re most powerful when you choose your choices. You have everything to win but you only have yourself to lose”
