Adedamola Adefolahan, professionally known as Fireboy DML is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter. He was born on the 5th of February 1996 in Ogun State, Nigeria. He sings afropop, afro-soul, hip hop genres of music. Fireboy DML is the first child in a family of three boys. Although not much is known about his family, including his parents, he even debunks the rumor that Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin, a Yoruba Hollywood veteran actor is his father.

The musician grew up in Ogun state and attended both his primary and secondary school education there. He later furthers his education at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun state. The artist studied English and graduated in 2017 after earning a Bachelor in Arts. Fireboy was not really from a music family like other artists but the love of arts grew on him. He wrote a lot of poems when he was a teenager, and from there he grew interest in music. His career in music was finally cemented at the university. The three musicians with the most influence on Fireboy are: Passenger, Wands Coal, and John Billion.

Fireboy started to perform at some shows at his school and was popular among students. This is when it dawned on him that he could pursue a career in music. He moved to Lagos, began to attend shows indiscriminately and would beg to sing. At other times, he would pay or have his friends pay for him. He started making his songs and writing for other people. In an interview, he said “I wrote songs for people, some N30k, others for N50k. Songs that I regret selling, but it is part of the process”.

In 2018, Olamide signed him to YBNL Nation. The music Icon had signed Picazo Rhap, and Yomi Blaze hours before announcing it on Instagram.

Fireboy dropped his first track Jealous that same year, two months after his signing; a part of the YBNL Mafia Family Album. He has gone on to release albums like Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, Apollo, as well as some fire singles like What if I Say, king, Don’t Say No, G-strings, Give Me Love, Peru and lots more.

As is expected hard work pays and Fireboy is not left out. He has been nominated for a lot of awards, and has won a lot of them. In 2019, he was nominated for The Headies Awards for the prize of Next Rated, Viewers’ Choice, and Song of the Year. While at the City People Music Awards he was nominated for Most Promising Act of the Year (Won), Best New Act of the year, and Revelation of the year. In 2020 he was nominated at the SoundCity MVP Awards Festival, he was nominated for Song of the Year, Listeners’ Choice (Won), Best New MVP; at the Headies, he won Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Single, Headies Revelation. He is currently being nominated at the African Entertainment Awards USA for Song of the Year Peru.
