Akin Mamba: The Ragapiano Pioneer Shaping Afrobeats & Dancehall Fusions Boluwatife
Akinfolarin Akinola, known by his stage name Akin Mamba, is a Lagos-born musical talent whose sound fuses Afrobeat, Raga, and Dancehall with a unique style he calls Ragapiano—a blend of Raga and Amapiano. A former member of the early 2000s group Melodyz (with Jah Bless and Johnny P), Akin Mamba’s versatility and longevity in music prove that his craft stands the test of time.
“Every song is a different song,” he says—and it shows in his infectious rhythms and unpredictable flows.
Music wasn’t just a choice for Akin—it was destiny. Despite brief pauses in his career, he found himself repeatedly drawn back to the mic. His first major feature came in 2006 on Seanteto’s “I Don Koko”, a hit that fueled his passion further. Today, he’s preparing for an EP launch, starting with the lead single “Ragapiano”, set to drop on February 14.

Akin Mamba cites Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Buju Banton, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, and Lieutenant ShotGun as key influences, blending their powerful messaging and rhythms into his own creations. His sound has evolved since 1999, staying relevant while retaining lyrical depth and a sharp sense of humor.
“My style and ability to blend with almost every genre of music makes me unique,” he explains.
As a native of Ejigbo, Lagos, Akin draws immense inspiration from his city’s energy. Lagos fuels his lyrics and lifestyle, pushing him to dream bigger. His vision? Hosting Nigeria’s very own global music awards—something bigger than the Grammys.
“We own the music industry worldwide right now,” he asserts confidently.
From spontaneous rhythm-led flows to crafting hooks from ready-made beats, Akin Mamba adapts his songwriting process to suit the moment. His flexibility helps him stay ahead of trends while preserving authenticity.
He believes the biggest challenge for new artists today is breaking through in a saturated market. Still, he’s confident:
“Many are called, few are chosen. My style will not go unnoticed.”
Akin is planning a full EP launch in April, and he has his eyes on dream collaborations with Olamide, Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Burna Boy. Off the stage, he’s also a radio announcer, MC, actor, and model—a true multitalent.
If you’re new to Akin Mamba, start with his track “Qualify”—a perfect showcase of his lyrical flow and melodic power.
With over two decades of experience and a constantly evolving sound, Akin Mamba is not just another artist—he’s a movement in the making. From radio to the stage, from Lagos to the world, his voice echoes passion, reality, and rhythm.🎶 Follow his journey on Instagram @damamba2, Twitter (X) @akin_mamba, and Facebook Akin Mamba.
