The Rise of Afrobeats Sensation, Libianca

Libianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji, mononymously known as Libianca, is a Cameroonian and American singer. Born in 2001 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her journey to fame is as remarkable as her music.

Early Life

Libianca’s journey began in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she was born in 2001. However, when she was four years old, her family faced immigration issues. To avoid deportation, they moved to Bamenda, Cameroon.

In Bamenda, she grew up singing in gospel choirs and learned to play the guitar at her boarding school.

2021–present: The Voice and “People”

In 2021, Libianca joined the twenty-first season of NBC’s The Voice, where she was coached by Blake Shelton. Although she made it to the top 20, she was eliminated.

Following her time on The Voice, Libianca signed with 5K Records and Sony in 2022. In December of the same year, she released her breakout single “People.”

Artistry

Libianca’s music is an intriguing fusion of R&B, Afrobeats, and soul, influenced by the Cameroonian and Nigerian music she grew up with.

Her songwriting, known for its honesty, has earned her praise from publications like Complex UK.
