L.A.X, born Damilola Abdul Razaq Afolabi, is one of the most dynamic voices in the Afrobeat scene. Since bursting into the spotlight with “Caro” alongside Wizkid, L.A.X has proven that he’s not just a one-hit wonder but a consistent hitmaker with an international appeal.
L.A.X was born on April 10, 1993, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He kickstarted his music journey in high school as part of a group called Flyboiz, where he first gained attention with the track “Busy Body.” His passion for music stayed alive even as he moved to the UK for his studies, earning a Master’s degree from the University of Manchester while actively pursuing his music career.
His big break came in 2013 when he signed a deal with Starboy Entertainment, the label founded by Wizkid. Their first collaboration, “Caro”, instantly became a hit, introducing L.A.X to the mainstream Nigerian music audience. The track earned him the Diaspora Artiste of The Year award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2014.
Following the success of Caro, L.A.X and Wizkid teamed up again for “Ginger,” further cementing his status as a rising star.
